a Peace of Joy series

Mixed media on 3- 12x24 stretched canvases.
[ink pencils, graphite, acrylic]

Some days are starting days and some days are finishing days. I have been trying to finish up what I have begun before I get some repair work done on my right wrist which will force me to take a bit of a break for healing. So to prepare, I have also been trying to paint with my left hand when precision isn't required... which is kind of interesting-- my left hand is not well trained at all I am finding-- tends to be a bit raw. I have been working on these ones over the last week. I have been making marks with the ink pencils or acrylic on a brush using my right hand, then pushing them around with paint or medium on a larger brush to blend them with my left hand. I guess I should be grateful I have another hand at least.

Better than I can do with my dominant hand! Hope your wrist heals soon.

Sorry to hear you need surgery Elis. There seems to be a lot of it about just now. I think increased use of computers may have something to do with it. I am useless with my left hand!

You certainly do a great job with using the left hand and I love your technique. I was wondering where the graphite would be?

I wish you the best of luck with the surgery and hope to see you back soon with your wonderful art.

Your paintings look pretty darn nice for a one handed artist. I do think you will have that left hand trained in no time.

You see, Elis, this is what I get for bugging out of the blog world for a little bit. I do hope you are doing well with your hand, now. It is difficult to work with your non-dominant hand, but it is useful sometimes, too. I use my left (non-dominant) a lot for a variety of things. That raw work can often come in handy as a jumping off place, too...a lot like drawing with your eyes closed, you know?

I really like what you are doing here with this work...you are doing some great tuning up with the pencils and graphite. Beautiful to be sure!

Okay, so I have returned to the blog world with a bit of a surprise...hop on over to see what I am up to these days.

Take Care of your hand...it is important!
